Booking your theory test

Before you can Book your theory test, you will first need to get your provisional licence. The cost of the theory test is £23.00. The theory test is separated into two sections. Multiple choice questions and Hazard Perception. You will need to pass both sections to pass your theory test. Your theory test is valid for 2 years which means that you will need to pass your practical test within this time. If you do not pass your practical test within 2 years, you will then need to retake your theory test.

Know the highway code

You will need to know the Highway Code before taking your theory test. The roads can be a dangerous place if not used correctly so the DVSA has developed the Highway Code to keep road users safe and to reduce the number of accidents and casualties. Breaking the rules of the Highway Code is a criminal offence for which you can be fined and accumulate points on your licence.

Practical Test

Booking your practical test

Before you can book a practical driving test, you will need to have passed your theory test. You will also need to feel confident and competent as a driver who can drive safely on the roads. The idea is that when you pass your practical test, you will be able to drive on the roads all by yourself without any fear of something going wrong.

Show me – Tell me questions

During your practical test, you will need to be able to answer 2 questions which pertains to the safety of the vehicle.

The first question is known as the ‘Tell Me’ question and will be asked at the beginning of the test. There are 14 possible questions of which you will get one random question to answer.

The second question is known as the ‘Show Me’ question and will be asked while you are driving. There are 7 possible questions of which you will get one random question to demonstrate.
